From here in Britain I like to jerk the chain or my local MP, the FCO, the Ministry of Defence and so on. I have previously suggested to my MP that a couple of Scimitar-class patrol boats and 3 RHIBs is hardly appropriate when you consider the type of vessel the Spanish Navy sends.

Information from anyone in Gibraltar that cares to document Spanish incursions would be welcome. Please try to identify the likely owner, e.g. likely/actual owner, type of vessel, name/identification of vessel, date and time of incursion, activities, distance from Gibraltar shoreline, date and time incursion ends, any relevant comments, e.g. dangerous activities, interventions by RGP or RN. So activities such as incursions by jet skis and fishing boats are of as much interest as those by the Spanish Navy. If the RGP or RN intervenes, it would be useful to know how long it took before they arrived and what the Spanish/other foreign vessel did as a result.

These unauthorised incursions must be stopped. Not only as a political matter but also for the safety of the people of Gibraltar and visitors.

I have suggested to my MP that what the RN Gibraltar Squadron needs is x (number) of 1,600 tonne River-class patrol vessels.

I wouldn't want to decry anyone's views. After all, I'm British, so I believe in freedom of speech. As long as it's fair and equal. I don't agree with what appears to be a current Spanish (and Argentine) concept that amounts to "I'm right. You're wrong. So shut up. And we don't care what you say."

So, on the subject of smoking, let me direct everyone to democracy institute website and search on "Public Smoking Bans". I suggest that if you can read the paper and still maintain that the case for public smoking bans has been made beyond doubt, you need to ask yourself whether you really believe in freedom and democracy.

No doubt an interesting election but I donīt think as easy as people may think for the GSLP OR GSD. Vasquez seems to be running a campaign similar to Charles Gomez did some time back but eventually the block vote will stop any chance of democracy

Gilbert Licudi is a possibility and one I thought might have gotten the nod from Joe until Fabian put his name into the ring a few months back. Joe Garcia is a complete joke according to non Liberal Party sources so in fact the choices are PC, Keith Azzopardi, Joe Garcia, JB/FP or GL (depending on the party executive).
I wonder if Robert Vasquez fancies starting a party up.

Firstly, sorry for the delay replying.

Seconldy, I'm glad you said 'Danny Feetham will have to wait again'.

He was already, before the stabbing, probably the most electable man in Gibraltar - far ahead of PC. Indeed one of the real 'knock-on' tragedies of the stabbing itself to our democratic process is that, assuming he does stand again, any massive or large vote could be attributed by some to a sympathy / solidarity (against violence) vote.

I'm curious about whether DF sees opportunity to advance things for Gibraltar far enough while PC remains entrenched about some things where the civilised world has moved on.

DF still has plenty more work he can do on the things he has been allowed to get on with, and indeed I'm sure he could get a few more areas to advance as well. The question is will he:
Do that, and continue to bide his time - thinking that (of the alternative scenarios possible) this is the best for Gibraltar.
Or use the stabbing as an excuse to leave the scene (for a variety of reasons) for a term.
Or think he is best placed to contribute most by remaining in the house so he should stand.
Or something/anything else.....

I should say, I still think PC has done, and does, a great job in many areas. I have fundamental disagreement with his position on some things though. My main concern is the absence of 'tallent' and 'ability' from the rest of the Government ministers and a lot of the opposition members, and a lot of the potential candidates from other parties.

As for Joe Garcia and the liberals, they do contribute one vauable thing to Gibraltar, that is their presence within (i.e. membership of) liberal international. While most international party groupings are of limited worth, the liberal groups do generally (by virtue of their fundamental ethos) actually achieve more than most.
However, in local terms, the need to decide if they merge with the GSLP or what. They can't continue standing in an ongoing basis for years on end - with the same old candidates (that I don't rate).
Though I would see it as a step backward if we did not have a local party of presence as part of LI.

As for the PDP, I liked a couple of their previous candidates. But I wouldn't want KA as CM. I don't think he has the right outlook or would pick the best routes through things - even though he might sometimes see things more clearly for what they are. [The person who identifies and describes best the problem, is not always the best person to fix it.]

We need a better voting systems and a few more elected members. That will make parliament function better, and in turn make sucession identity and choice better.
